Growing Growers: Plant Propagation and Production Planning

Description: Come visit the greenhouses at K-State’s Olathe Horticulture Research and Extension Center, a scenic 342-acre site dedicated to applied research of fruit, vegetable, flower and forestry industries.

This workshop will cover the basics of transplant propagation as well as planning tools that can increase productivity throughout the growing season. Dr. Cary Rivard, Vegetable Extension Specialist from Kansas State University, will address transplant production options, seed starting and tomato plant grafting. Zac Hoppenstedt, K-State Horticulture Research Assistant, will discuss options for early season sweet potato sprouting and transplant production in high tunnels. Alicia Ellingsworth, Farm to Institution Manager at KC Healthy Kids, will review her crop planning strategies from years of experience managing the Gibbs Road Farm and Juniper Gardens Training Farm.

Cost to attend this workshop is $15. Light refreshments will be provided.
