Double Up Food Bucks Kansas City

Double Up Food Bucks Kansas City is a program of Cultivate Kansas City and a partner in the Double Up Heartland Coalition. Double Up Food Bucks Kansas City helps low-income families eat more locally grown fruits and vegetables by doubling food assistance dollars (SNAP or SFMNP) spent at participating farmers markets. Since 2010, Double Up Food Bucks Kansas City, formerly Beans&Greens, has driven over $1.7 million in local food purchases by low-income families. Our program helps make local food accessible to all members of our community and develops a more robust community supporting local farmers. It’s a win-win!

How It Works

Cultivate Kansas City believes every eater, regardless of income level, has the right to eat healthy, nutrient-dense, delicious food grown by local farmers. Double Up Food Bucks Kansas City makes this easier – for every SNAP or SFMNP dollar spent at farmers markets, the customer earns an extra dollar to spend on fresh fruits and vegetables (up to $25/day). Growing Stronger

Double Up Food Bucks Kansas City, formerly Beans&Greens, was co-founded in 2010 with the Menorah Heritage Foundation, who managed it until Cultivate Kansas City assumed program operations in 2015. A new partnership with the Double Up Heartland Coalition inspired a name change to Double Up Food Bucks Kansas City. In spring of 2016, the USDA awarded the Food Insecurity Nutrition Incentive (FINI) grant to the Double Up Heartland Coalition to expand SNAP match programs across Kansas and Missouri. The collaboration reinforces our mission-driven program: to strengthen local food systems by increasing food equity and supporting local farmers.
