Community Spotlight: MOTHER EARTH NEWS FAIR
Ami Freeberg, Community Outreach Coordinator, Cultivate Kansas City
MOTHER EARTH NEWS magazine has been helping folks live self-reliant, sustainable, meaningful lives for more than 40 years. With an audience of more than 3 million readers worldwide, it is the largest and longest-running environmental lifestyle magazine on the planet.
Each year the MOTHER EARTH NEWS brings their magazine to life with the MOTHER EARTH NEWS FAIRS. For the first time ever, the fair will be coming to our region – October 12 and 13 in Lawrence, KS.
The MOTHER EARTH NEWS FAIRS are fun-filled, family-oriented sustainable lifestyle events that feature dozens of practical, hands-on demonstrations and workshops from the leading authorities on: Renewable Energy, Small-Scale Agriculture, Gardening, Green Building, Green Transportation and Natural Health.
Keynote speakers for the Lawrence, KS fair include Eliot Coleman of Four Season Farm, Joel Salatin of Polyface Farm, Woody Tasch of Slow Money, and Temple Grandin. The weekend features dozens of hands on workshops and demonstrations. See the full lineup here!
In between sessions, attendees enjoy an array of entertainment options, organic local food and beverages, as well as outdoor gardening and livestock
demonstrations. Plus, they save on great deals from dozens of regional and national vendors that feature sustainable lifestyle products and services, including: books, tools, seeds, crafts, organic foods, clothes, solar gadgets and more!
Programming at the MOTHER EARTH NEWS FAIR isn't just for adults. A full slate of exciting, informative workshops is dedicated for children ages 17 and under, who are admitted free to the event. Whether it is learning the fundamentals of gardening or beekeeping, or learning how to make (and taste!) homemade ice cream, the MOTHER EARTH NEWS FAIR "Tree House" is chock-full of engaging, eco-friendly activities for children of all ages.
