Many Hands Working Together on Earth Day

This Monday, April 22nd we held an Earth Day Day of Service + Happy Hour to celebrate and nurture this amazing blue marble we call home!

As we continue to transition away from the current Westport Commons Farm site, we decided to get creative with the volunteer portion of the day, and send this big group out into the community. We’re so pleased we had around 80 volunteers to lend a hand at the following nearby farms:

We saw lots of individuals from our community plus groups from Evergy, Henderson Engineers, Complete Technology, BH Managment Services, Blue KC, Ligand Pharmaceuticals, US Probation Service, Kansas District, and Lincoln College Preparatory Academy Key Club.

It was a beautiful (windy) day, and these hearty folks got to work picking up trash, spreading mulch, weeding, planting, painting, and building- all over Midtown. Raised beds were filled. Trellises were constructed. Mulch was spread, and compost was bagged up! And then everyone gathered back at Westport Commons Farm for a celebration of our hard work with the Tamaleon KC food truck, cake, Torn Label beer, and fun.

THANK YOU to staff, everyone who hosted volunteers, hard working volunteers, and even friends who just came to party! What better way to celebrate Earth Day than to care for the soil – and farmers- that feed us?! We can’t think of one.

Special thanks to Torn Label Brewing Company!
