New Roots graduates receive bridge loans for EQIP high tunnels
Cows, goats, rabbits, chickens and ducks enjoyed a feast at our Westport Commons Farm during our grazing event, which took place on August 25.
The field was feasted on by goats from Nile Valley Aquaponics; chickens, ducks and rabbits from Manheim Gardens; and dairy cows from Liberty Hills Farm. Human visitors enjoyed options from Betty Rae’s Ice Cream and El Tenedor as well as at The Sundry.
The event invited neighbors and the community to visit the field and watch as the animals grazed on the field and “contributed to the soil,” and allowed us to talk about the soil food web and our cover cropping as a method of improving soil conditions.
With more than 100 attendees, we hope to bring back the animals and the event for additional education and engagement opportunities.
