Derby Day at The House

Our ever supportive friends at Lulu’s Thai Noodle Shop and The House recently approached us hoping to hold an event to benefit Cultivate KC. After some conversation and much planning and preparation on their end, Derby Day at the House could not have been more fun. It was one of our most successful third-party fundraisers in the last several years!

Derby Day at the House was marked by fabulously creative hats, bright, sunny weather, the freshest of mint juleps, and Cultivate KC supporters going all out for a memorable evening! The team from Lulu’s and The House kept guests entertained with lawn games while a DJ spun tracks. A Derby-themed selfie station made for a lovely photo op, and two luxurious headpieces won their owners a pie prize for best hats. Guests eagerly took a chance at the raffle to win a Mint Julep Kit basket with bourbon generously donated by Union Horse Distilling Company, made complete with fresh mint from Cultivate KC’s very own Juniper Gardens Training Farm.  

Lulu’s leaned into the theme and served up all-you-care-to-eat savory bites like Winner’s Circle Rolls, Lucky Streak Laab, and the Backstretch Burger and Fries. Curated cocktails paired with the food perfectly, and each person left the event satisfied- not just from the delicious food and beverage- but also from knowing that 100 percent of the money they spent that evening was going right back to supporting Kansas City farmers and local food.
