Dig In! 2023 – What a night!

Posted on October 6, 2023 by Alicia Alferman

On September 17th, Cultivate KC hosted our Dig In! farm-to-table fundraising event. The evening went so smoothly this year; even the weather cooperated perfectly. We’re thrilled that with the help of our sponsors, chefs, volunteers, and attendees, the event raised nearly $96,000!

Dig In! has always been a locally sourced meal that doesn’t disappoint, and this year was no exception. The evening sarted off with a  grazing table with all local produce and charcuterie and featured ferments from Fair Share Farm, jams from Broadmoor Bistro, and bread from Bloom Baking Co. Halfsider played lively tunes while folks enjoyed signature cocktails featuring J. Reiger & Co. and BARE Zero Proof Spirits, wine and Stockyards Brewing Co. beer.

The delicious meal continued while emcee Dan Krull opened the program, Cultivate KC Excecutive Director Brien Darby welcomed guests, and event co-chair Andy Crimmins encouraged support from the crowd. We were thrilled with the outcomes of the live and paddle raise auctions, but the highlight of the evening was New Roots graduate farmer Ca Saw, who with the help of interpreter Daniel Lian, shared his story of coming to the United States, finding his way to the New Roots training program, starting his own farm business, and joining the New Roots staff himself as seasonal Site Caretaker at Juniper Gardens Training Farm.

We throuroghly enjoyed the evening, and it sounds like our guests did as well!

We’d like to send one last shout out to the team of chefs including Amante Domingo and the enitre team at The Russell and Noka, Alex Pope of Local Pig, Sarah Darby of Bloom Baking Company, Jamie Howard of High Hopes Ice Cream, Jonathon Bush of High Hopes Ice Cream, and the Broadmoor Bistro staff & students – the meal was delicious!

A heartfelt THANK YOU goes out to the following supporters- our event co-chairs, Andy & Joy Crimmins, the City Market for the venue, our auction item donors, and the sponsors who made this event possible.

And if you attended, THANK YOU for your generosity and continuing support of urban growers and local food in Kansas City.
