KCMO Urban Agriculture Ordinance Testimony Prep

The City of KCMO’s urban agriculture ordinance updates are moving forward and there are still opportunities for you to weigh in on the final text. The Greater KC Food Policy Coalition, a group of farm and food system stakeholders advocating for an equitable, sustainable and resilient food system, is hosting a drop-in session to help farmers and friends prepare to deliver public testimony at the upcoming City Plan Commission hearing about the ordinance revision. Public testimony is a vehicle for constituents to share their feedback with city decisionmakers on key issues up for evaluation. Preparing testimony in advance can give you the context and confidence needed to concisely address the issues that are most important to you and relevant to the process.

If you want to engage in important civic action, come by Vine Street Brewing anytime between 4 and 7 pm and stay as long as you need. All questions are welcome and the first beer is on the Coalition!

How you can prepare:

  • Read the latest draft of the ordinance
  • Read the GKCFPC statement on the urban agriculture ordinance update
  • Think about aspects of the ordinance that might impact your farm and write down questions
  • Mark your calendar to attend the upcoming City Plan Commission Hearing on Wednesday, November 18, 9:00 am at City Hall (10th floor) or virtually on Zoom.

This is an important opportunity to strengthen KCMO’s ordinance in support of urban agriculture, and we hope to see you at City Hall!
