Strawberry Plug Bulk Order & Disease Information

Disease Information:

Neopestalotiopsis (Neo-P) is a disease that can cause damage to the leaves, fruit, and crowns of strawberry plants. A new species of Neo P was observed in 2019 and has been found in most states. This disease is commonly introduced through infected strawberry plugs that may appear healthy at planting. The disease spreads rapidly in wet conditions through raindrop splatter and can persist in soil on plant debris. It has the potential to stay in soil for up to 3 years posing a threat to future harvests. Crown rot symptoms include reddening of older leaves and stunting of younger leaves.

For more information on Neo P, and the risks that it poses, check out these publications from Virginia Tech and University of Kentucky.

Our supplier, McNitt Growers, is offering one Neo-P resistant variety this year, indicated below. Fronteras has some level of Neo-P tolerance.
