Summer Lettuce Project at JGTF
It has been quite a while since you’ve heard news from the Greater Kansas City Food Policy Coalition (the Coalition), so we’re excited to share an update. Since the Coalition was established in 2010, it had been staffed by KC Healthy Kids and guided by a Steering Committee made up of community stakeholders and advocates. When KC Healthy Kids closed its doors on January 31, 2025, the Coalition’s Steering Committee unanimously voted to continue the Greater KC Food Policy Coalition and prioritize an intentional transition into its next season.
Cultivate KC has been an integral part of the Greater KC Food Policy Coalition from the beginning and is helping to lead the transition, beginning with strategic planning. Thanks to funding from the Kansas Health Foundation, the Coalition has been working with Julie Klima of Purpose Amp to guide this strategic planning process.
Over the last two months, the Coalition’s Executive Committee has worked with Purpose Amp to engage in one-on-one interviews, host a Steering Committee listening session, hold two in-person community listening sessions, and launch a community stakeholder survey. The goal of this work is to create a new strategic plan to guide how the Coalition can best serve our community at this time. To make sure the plan reflects what matters most, we invite you to share your thoughts through the Community Stakeholder Survey by October 23, 2025! Your insights are vital to shaping a future food system that is equitable, sustainable, and resilient.
Over the next two months, the Greater KC Food Policy Coalition’s Steering Committee will work with Purpose Amp to synthesize all the community input and develop an action-oriented strategic plan to move forward into the new year. To stay up to date on the Coalition’s planning process and future work, please join the Coalition’s email list below.
We hope you will contribute your voice to this important conversation through the strategic planning survey and your ongoing engagement with food and agriculture policy.
