Summer Lettuce Project at JGTF
For the past 26 years, farmers markets across the country have participated in National Farmers Market Week to celebrate local agriculture’s vital place in our food system. All this week and weekend, you’ll see special events at markets all across the KC metro area.
Here’s a sampling of events you can attend to support local growers, markets, and community.
Bonner Springs Farmers Market

Bonner Springs is celebrating with live music and nutrition education! Check out musician Rick McClellan, SNAP Ed Nutrition Educator Liz Bryden, and several produce and craft vendors at the wonderful new shade structure at Centennial Park!

Excelsior Springs Farmers Market

Excelsior Springs hosted their National Farmers Market Week celebration on Wednesday, August 6, but they still operate every Wednesday. With over 18 produce and craft vendors, all kinds of promotional programs, and even an official proclamation from Mayor Mark Spohn, it was a great event for the whole community. Be sure to join them every Wednesday through October, and for another celebration next year!

Ivanhoe Farmers Market

The Ivanhoe neighborhood community is celebrating with a new burger stand (including snow cones!) from the Ivanhoe Neighborhood Youth Advisory Council. They’re also hosting a special booth from the American Farmland Trust, whose mission is to protect farmland and keep farmers on their own land. It promises to be an excellent weekend!

Get out and celebrate! If your local farmers market isn’t listed here, show up anyway and see how they’re celebrating the occasion. National Farmers Market Week is a party no matter where you go, so get out, enjoy the sunshine, and support your local food system!
