Juniper Gardens Welcomes BarkleyOKRP

Posted on May 13, 2026 by Alicia Alferman

Spring brings new changes; but our volunteers’ passion remains the same!

For their city-wide volunteer day, BarkleyOKRP partnered with Cultivate KC at Juniper Gardens Training Farm. Eighteen volunteers were ready to provide critical support managing both weeding garden beds, and mowing, in the Troup Ave Educational Orchard. The educational orchard is available for New Roots farmers, in a partnership with The Giving Grove, to learn how to grow and sell a variety of fruit crops.  A blackberry patch, which was planted during the 2025 season, is currently blooming and blackberries will be ready for harvest soon.

The volunteers also had the chance to provide storm water management for two New Roots farmers’ plots, which will help their garden beds from becoming oversaturated with water during the rainy season. With the group’s help, the New Roots CSA was also able to start off on the right foot with constructing a new shed! The Volunteer Workday ended with a tour of the new Diana Eisman Community Greenhouse at Stowe Garden.

We truly appreciate BarkleyOKRP for choosing Cultivate KC as a volunteer location. With major changes this year for Cultivate KC, volunteers are our backbone in helping Juniper Gardens Training Farm remain sustainable for the farmers!

Support from groups like this is crucial for our farmers and staff. Is your organization interested in volunteering with Cultivate KC?! There will be a variety of ways that individuals and groups can volunteer during the 2026 season.
