March 31 is Cesar Chavez Day

Happy Cesar Chavez Day!

Today we celebrate the life and work of a man who devoted his career to fighting for better working and living conditions for a largely migrant and immigrant farm labor force. Using nonviolent tactics, Chavez, Delores Huerta, and many others fought for the right for farm workers to unionize; this led to opportunities for higher wages and safer working conditions including restrictions on the use of certain dangerous pesticides.

Here are a few things you can do to honor his legacy:

  • Learn more about the ongoing work of the Cesar Chavez and Delores Huerta foundations.
  • Seek out produce grown organically or using other methods that favor the health of the grower.
  • Support your community through acts of volunteerism. The pandemic has cut short many in-person volunteer activities, but food banks need our support now more than ever. Reach out to your local food bank today to find out how you can help.

Viva la causa!
