Diana Eisman Greenhouse Groundbreaking at Stowe Farm
Saturday, June 24th was our Midtown Hoedown, and what an amazing time it was! Despite the heat and humidity, around 135 people attended and raised nearly $4,000. The party was a huge success by every measure, and we can’t wait to start planning next year’s event!
There was lively music, dancing, yard games, delicious Weiner Wagon sausages (and carrot dogs), and refreshing frozen treats from Rainbow Ice. There were also lots of ice cold beverages provided by Boulevard Brewing, Tito’s, and Wild Child Libations to help everyone cool down.
The centerpiece of the evening was Halfsider, an old-time string band, featuring Howard Rains, Tricia Spencer, Isaiah Sibi, and Rachel Krause with gender-free called dancing led by Lisa Harris-Frydman. Lisa expertly led the dancers of all ages and experience through the steps before each dance. When the band started playing, the fun began.
So many happy, sweaty folks dancing and stomping, hollering and laughing – it really was the MOST fun we’ve ever had out on the farm! Midtown Hoedown was also was a fantastic example of the community we work to build on the farm – all kinds of folks joined together, celebrating summer on a small plot of earth in the heart of the city, where farmers grow food, volunteers connect with the soil, school kids learn how food is grown, and so much more.
Lisa Harris Frydmann, the dance caller, agreed. “Thank you so much for the experience of calling for your wonderful event! You have built a beautiful community. It was a pleasure to support what you are doing and help make the evening fun. I was impressed that so many people were dancing.”
A huge THANK YOU goes out to everyone who attended, purchased raffle tickets, and of course to our generous sponsors!
