Metro Farms & Food Systems

Cultivate KC’s Metro Farms & Food Systems develops urban farms and community-based food projects through technical assistance, growers network development, collaborative projects, and policy/systems change. Its two programming arms are:

Urban Farmer Development

Through the MFFS program, Cultivate KC provides workshops and 1-on-1 assistance local farmers, offers consultations to organizations involved in food projects/systems, awards grants to start-up farmers, and offers practical support for growers in the form of bulk purchases and networking opportunities.

Public Education

The program’s public education prioritizes consumers of food in Kansas City by providing educational opportunities to these individuals through volunteerism, events, community engagement and media presentations. Education is focused on helping people to eat more locally and healthfully, to become growers, to support the local food economy, and to advocate for local food in their own communities.
