The Happiest of Happy Hours in Quite Awhile
We cannot hold fundraising events without the help of sponsors. And when our dedicated board members introduce us to sponsorship opportunities, it truly feels like a WIN-WIN. This year, Black & Veatch, a long-time supporter of Cultivate KC, became the presenting sponsor of our Midtown Hoedown event, secured with assistance from the Chair of our Board of Directors, Nathan Young. Midtown Hoedown introduced so many new faces to Cultivate KC in such a FUN way, and was a wild success by all measures- with a little over 300 folks in attendance, raising just under $40,000!

We asked Nathan a few questions about Black & Veatch and their involvement with Cultivate KC.
Why did your company decide to sponsor Midtown Hoedown?
Black and Veatch has had a long standing relationship with Cultivate KC through board and committee involvement as well as charitable giving. Being able to tie our support to an event that takes place in the community Cultivate KC serves and brings together residents and supporters of their mission is important to us. It reflects the sense of community and care for one another that is so core to who BV is as an organization.
Why is supporting Cultivate KC’s mission a good fit for your organization?
Cultivate KC’s work and mission fits squarely into the Black & Veatch Foundation’s focus area of Community (Thriving Communities): This focus area invests in causes that address inequities in vulnerable and marginalized populations, with a priority on preventing violence, addressing homelessness, combatting human trafficking, natural disaster response, and reducing disparities caused by social determinants of health. We love being able to support Cultivate KC’s efforts to drive equitable food access and food insecurity.
Tell us about your organization’s commitment to sustainability and/or supporting local food systems.
Our deep commitment to sustainability is at the core of all we do at Black & Veatch, reflected both within our values and internal operations, as well as at our clients’ project sites and underpins our longstanding purpose to Build a World of Difference. Black & Veatch is focusing our actions on accelerating the sustainability of three interlinked pillars that organize and enhance our comprehensive impact: Client, Corporate, and Community.
When it comes to our community focus, we recognize that the ambitious goals for a more sustainable world cannot be achieved alone. We strive to create progress in our network through collaboration with suppliers, government entities, non-governmental organizations, and other providers and partners, and improve our communities through impactful projects and partnerships that drive social progress through the Black & Veatch Foundation. Lastly, we enable innovation through the Black & Veatch IgniteX startup accelerator that seeks to de-risk and enhance scalability of new climate technology.
THANK YOU, Black & Veatch, for your increasing level of support! We couldn’t do any of the valuable work we do without supporters who believe in our mission and who value strengthening our local food system and increasing equitable food access. And thanks again, Nathan, for all you do for us.
