Farm Bill Success Stories at Vine Street Brewing
The Chair of our Board of Directors, Shannon Berry has done so much for Cultivate KC over the years. And while she rolls off our Board at the end of the year, we know she’ll still continue support us however she can. It’s in her spirit.
Originally from Houston, TX Shannon and her husband Reggie moved to Kansas City in 2012. To get involved in her new community, she immediately looked for an organization focused on food access. She found Cultivate Kansas City, and for that we are grateful. She started as a volunteer with our annual Dig In! farm-to-table dinner, and soon joined the Dig In! Planning Committee, helping to plan the event from 2012 to 2015. Over the years she has also served on the Urban Grown Tour, Finance and Operations, 10-Year Anniversary and Nominating Committees. She joined our Board of Directors in 2015, and served as our board chair for the past 3 years. Shannon has led the organization to grow to what it is today!
Fun facts about Shannon: As a successful child model, she was one of the original Toys R’ Us kids. She’s an avid reader. She loves volunteering in her community. Her family’s favorite farmers markets are the Brookside and Ivanhoe Markets. Turnip greens are her favorite veggie.
Why does she find Cultivate KC’s mission so meaningful? “If you look at all the important issues around social justice, whether it be racism, food access poverty, child obesity, socioeconomic mobility, whatever it may be; they can all be solved sitting next to a good plate.”
