The Happiest of Happy Hours in Quite Awhile

Posted on July 28, 2026 by Alicia Alferman

Y’all. It’s been a weird summer here at Cultivate KC. Due to the uncertainty of some rather large funding, we canceled our biggest fundraising event in May. And because we were trepidatious about planning too much while the World Cup was in town, we purposely gave ourselves a few very quiet months to focus on supporting the New Roots program without a partner and direct our attention to the farmers and all the folks we serve. So when it was finally time for a happy hour on the farm, we were READY for a party!

Last Thursday, July 23rd, we had a fantastic turnout for our Homegrown Happy Hour at Juniper Gardens Training Farm. Our generous friends at Lulu’s Thai Noodle Shop came out to the farm and served some complimentary snacks. Boulevard Brewing provided us with beer and seltzers. We served a blackberry mint vodka lemonade cocktail, sodas, and in anticipation of very hot weather, several flavors of High Hopes Ice Cream

There was no need to worry about the heat! Such lucky timing – it finally broke and we had a delightfully cooler, breezy evening to hang out with old friends and introduce some new ones to the magic of Juniper Gardens. We enjoyed Farmer Ngun Tial’s popup farm stand, tastings of the New Roots Kimchi from Fair Share Farm, a few rounds of Chicken Sh*t Bingo, yard games, talking a little about Farm Bill advocacy, and of course live music from Zydeco Tougeau. They’ve been supporters for quite awhile, and this duo comes back every year and shares their upbeat music and all around good vibes. We even raffled off a New Roots Flower Share to a lucky winner!

If you attended the happy hour – thank you for coming! It makes us really happy to see so many happy folks out on the farm. Let us know what you thought.

We also would like to extend a HUGE THANK YOU to Brady Franklin and the rest of our friends at Endeavor Private Wealth for sponsoring this event. We couldn’t do what we do without supporters like you.

Are you looking for ways to get involved with us until our next event? It’s NOT TOO LATE to sign up for the late season New Roots Farm Share CSA or Flower Share and we’re always looking for volunteers. Groups and individuals are welcome. We hope to see you all again soon!
