Cultivate KC Awards First Round of Micro Grant Funding
Attention KC Metro Producers:
Cultivate KC is working cooperatively with the USDA’s Farm Service Agency (FSA) to accept nominations for Kansas City’s inaugural FSA Urban County Committee (UCOC). The UCOC was not established in time to participate in the traditional FSA election cycle, so this alternative process will be used to get the UCOC members appointed and operating without waiting for next year’s elections.
The UCOC will consist of five members: two from the Kansas side of the state line, and three from the Missouri side. Each member will represent a designated Local Administrative Area (LAA). Nominees must live or have farm interests in an LAA to be eligible. Initial appointments by the State FSA Committee will have staggered terms of one to three years. Subsequent UCOC elections will follow the standard FSA County Committee election process administered by FSA.
Nominees must be an agricultural producer and must have a registered farm number with the FSA. More info on registration can be found here.
This is a non-salaried public service position. A small stipend will be provided to offset costs.
Job duties for county committee members include:
Nominations are open Sept 30. The deadline to submit a nomination is Oct 21. Nominations will be reviewed by a group of local organizations and recommendations will be made to the FSA State Committees in Missouri and Kansas to confirm appointments to each LAA.
A webinar with more info from Farm Service Agency will be held October 15 at noon. Register here to participate or receive the recording link if you are unable to join live.
